About
I presented a talk for the Pure Math, Applied Math, Combinatorics and Optimization Club's Fall 2012 Short Attention Span Math Seminar (SASMS).
My talk consisted of a brief survey of the real-world motivations of linear optimization and a build-up to the concept of LP duality via a sequence of small intuitive geometrical observations and many pretty pictures.
I had a lot of fun with these slides because I got to do several of my favourite things: explain math concepts through underlying geometry, draw, and pretend to be a font rendering engine.
Amusingly enough, my rough copy was done in TeX and my good copy was hand-written. Beamer was feeling restrictive, and I was inspired by a very nicely done Tutte Seminar talk with handwritten slides (it was on matroids, and I unfortunately don't remember who it was that presented.)
