About

RTFX stands for Real Time Special Effects. It is a framework for real time communication between 3D (and 2D) graphics applications. It enables collaborative design of game levels, virtual environments and 3D assets, real time visualization of motion capture, and much more.

History

RTFX was started in September of 2010. The original tool was designed as a real time visualization tool for Vicon motion capture and simple Houdini particle systems. The first prototype used the UDK exclusively for visualization. This research was conducted with Sheridan College and SIRT. More information on the first prototype can be found: HERE1 HERE2 HERE3.

In late 2011, RTFX evolved into an application-agnostic library, where users could create RTFX plugins for any application. This second prototype is continuing to evolve, and research is conducted with Side Effects Software in Toronto, Canada. More information on the second prototype can be found: HERE1 HERE2.

Development

RTFX is written in C++. It was designed to be platform independent, and uses minimal external libraries.
