Goals
- To provide a channel of
communication between UW faculty, staff and students of Serbian background
as well as anyone else interested in Serbian culture and tradition.
- To introduce UW faculty and
staff to Serbian culture, history, language and heritage.
- To guide and assist new UW
students of Serbian background and help them engage in university
activities.
- To initiate and support
academic, social and athletic activities within the confines of the
University of Waterloo.
- To promote respect and mutual
understanding in the multicultural environment of the University.

The Constitution of UW Serbian Student
Association
Article 1. Name
The name of this organization shall be the University of Waterloo Serbian
Student Association.
Article 2. Purpose
The University of Waterloo Serbian Student Association (UWSSA) shall exist for
the following purposes:
- To provide a channel of
communication between UW faculty, staff and students of Serbian background
as well as anyone else interested in Serbian culture and tradition.
- To introduce UW faculty and
staff to Serbian culture, history, language and heritage.
- To guide and assist new UW
students of Serbian background and help them engage in university
activities.
- To initiate and support
academic, social and athletic activities within the confines of the
University of Waterloo.
- To promote respect and mutual
understanding in the multicultural environment of the University.
Article 3. Affiliation
This club will be affiliated with the following clubs:
- McMaster University
Serbian Association
- Mohawk College Serbian
Association
- University of Toronto
Serbian Association
- University of Western
Ontario Serbian Association
- York University Serbian
Student Association
Article 4. Membership
The general membership of our club will contain voting and associate members.
Voting membership will be open to all undergraduate and graduate students of
the University of Waterloo, both registered and on work-term. Associate
membership is open to alumni, faculty and staff members. Associate members can
not vote nor hold executive positions. The fees shall be $5/term for the voting
members and $2/term for the associate member.
Article 5. Executive Officers
The officers of the club will form the Executive Committee and their
responsibilities are as follows:

1. President
The president shall ensure the regular events are held, promote the club,
draw up an agenda and act as the chair over the club meetings. The President
shall, with the assistance of the Vice-President, be responsible for all
Club/Faculty and Club/Student relations and the club’s relation with any
other organization at the University. Where necessary, the president after
the consultation with the Vice- President, has the final say in decisions of
the Club.
2. Vice-President
The Vice-President’s duties are to assist the president in all of the
president’s duties, to act as one of the two signing authorities, to ensure
that all club activities and promotions conform with the club’s policies, and
take over president’s role in president’s absence. The Vice-President shall,
with the assistance of the President, be responsible for all Club/Faculty and
Club/Student relations and the club’s relations with any other organization at
the University.
3. Event Coordinator
The Event Coordinator’s duties are to oversee and guide organization of all
of the club events.
4. Communications Coordinator
The Communications Coordinator’s duties are to guide the formation of
promotional material for the club events. In addition, the duties include
organization of on-line communications of the club members; specifically,
maintenance of the club’s email list, and distribution of the club’s
announcements through the Internet.
5. Treasurer
The Treasurer shall be responsible for the financial matters of the club; in
particular, act as one of the two signing authorities, maintain an accurate
record of all financial transactions, and collect membership fees.
6. Secretary
The Secretary shall ensure that clear and precise minutes are kept from all
of the club meetings.

Article 6. Meetings
Club meetings will take place on predetermined day of the week, set each term,
every other week. Emergency meeting will be called by the executives, given 24
hour notice is given to the members.
Article 7. Elections
Elections will take place at the beginning of each school term. All club
members will be notified through email about the election meeting. Any voting
member may be elected for as many as two positions, with the exception of
President and Vice-President. The term of office will be for one school term.
In the case of a tie, a re-vote will be taken. In the case of vacancy, the
first nomination to be received and ratified will fill the position.
Article 8. Signing officers
The two signing officers for the club shall be the Treasurer and the
Vice-President. They have sole signing authority over the club.
Article 9. Amendments
Any full member can submit a proposal for an amendment to the Constitution at
any general meeting. The amendments will be read at the meeting and voted for
at the next general meeting. Majority vote is necessary for an amendment to be
accepted.
