Networking Basics

Networks are connections between two or more devices. They are identified through IP Addresses and MAC Addresses. IP Addresses are assigned by ISPs and are used to identify devices on a network. There are two types of IP addresses: IPV4 and IPV6. IP Addresses are broken up into octets. MAC Addresses are physical addresses for devices. The first three parts of a MAC Address is vendor assigned, while the the last three are unique.
