After several other failed starts, including on the inverse, I found this skeleton.
Initially I had the following insertions:

Insert at (3): B' D2 B U2 B' D2 B U2 (cancel 4)
Insert at (4): L F2 L' B2 L F2 L' B2 (cancel 1)

Had just enough time to go back and check the second best initial insertion, and it worked out better.
Insertions were optimal.
