When will the international community realize that it is in their best interest to finally resolve the issue of Cyprus before it explodes into an all out war between Greeks and Turks? Since the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, the United Nations has allowed the Turkish Army to illegally occupy the Northern third of the island. No country in the world, with the exception of Turkey ofcourse, has recognized this renegade "state." Hundreds of thousands of Greeks were forced to flee their homes and thousands of Greeks are still missing from the war. Is this any different from Bosnia? Given the events of last week(the slaying of two Greek protesters by Turkish troops captured on live television), it is obvious that the Turkish authorities have no intention of solving the issue peacefully. I ask everyone, particularly the Americans who hide under the umbrella of the UN, in what way was the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait any different from that of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus? This world is ruled by an ideology called hypocrisy. The international community should finally take a stand and end the Turkish military occupation in Cyprus. International law cannot be disregarded any longer. It has been 22 years too long!
