So you want to know about me do you? Well, let's start with the "vital statistics". I'm a white anglo-saxon male. I'm 30 years old, 5'10" tall, I weigh 85 kilograms, have blue eyes, and short brown hair. Until a few years ago I wore glasses, and had done since I was 14. Now I usually wear contact lenses. There are a few pictures strewn about my site, some with me in them, so look around a bit if you want to see those. The recent ones are mostly my vacation pictures. For instance, in New Zealand bungy jumping, or Sydney, or Mount Washington. I also recently got a tattoo.
Here's some semi-formal/standardized ways of describing me.

Here are my positions on the contentious issues of our day.
So what else belongs here... How about a little history? Well, I was born in Richmond Township, Ontario, Canada, on Nov. 15, 1974, around 8:30am EDT. Since then, a lot of things have happened. I grew up on a (very) small beef farm about 4 miles outside of Tamworth, Ontario, (Tamworth is about 20 miles north of Napanee (Napanee is about 30 kilometres west of Kingston on the 401 (Kingston is about 2 fifths of the way from Ottawa to Toronto, on the 401 (Toronto is the centre of the universe (at least that's what they claim))))) and had a blissful childhood frolicking about the countryside (no seriously, I did!). I went to Tamworth Public School for 9 years. About grade 4, I began to realize that I was significantly more intelligent than most or all of my classmates. By grade 6, I had no doubt I was the smartest person in my school. Of course, this was a school of 150 students, but that didn't matter much to me. In grade 7 and 8, I also asserted myself as the best fighter (pro style wrestler - ie. me and my classmates beating each other into submission on the playground) in the school. As you may have gathered by now, I had a substantial ego.
After primary school, I went to Napanee District Secondary School. Grade 9 was fun, because I still had that ego going strong. By this time I had convinced myself I was quite possibly the smartest person in the country, and I saw no evidence to the contrary. This continued in grade 10, but to a slightly lesser degree. Not that I changed my opinion of myself and the rest of the world, but it was simply old news, so I didn't feel it necessary to demonstrate at every opportunity. Then there was grade 11. I don't remember much about grade 11. I know I had a good time and all, but somewhere in there, I must have had an epiphany or something. When grade 12 came along, I was a new person. Basically, I had discarded the notion that I was always right, and started working harder at making it possible that that would be true at some time in the future.
After secondary school, I went to the University of Waterloo. I was there rather longer than I should have been. I started in September 1993, and finished in April 2000 with an Honours Co-op Computer Science Bachelor of Mathematics Degree. Now, it was a four year program, but I was in co-op, which means it would normally take 4 2/3 years (8 school terms, 6 work terms), so I should have graduated in April 1998. Perhaps at some point I'll document the saga in detail, but suffice it to say I slacked off, and had to catch up. In the end I had taken many courses, covering a bunch of topics (Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence, Algorithms, Concurrency, Data Structures, Databases, Digital Hardware, Numerical Computation, Operating Systems, System Performance Evaluation), Mathematics (Algebra, Calculus, Combinatorics & Optimization, Statistics), Astronomy, History, Music, Philosophy, Physics, and Religion). I had also worked at many places, for a bunch of organisations (Lennox & Addington County Board of Education, Industry Canada, CIBC, Zurich Insurance, EMR Canada, and Nortel).
My last four co-op terms were with Nortel (Networks), and I am now working for them full time in Ottawa as a Hardware Characterisation Engineer (I'm not a real "Engineer", that's just my job title) in the Optical division.
More to follow when I get around to it.
