Lectures are almost done, exams are almost here, etc, etc. As such yesterday was the final GDCIE of the term, so it’s time for a bit of a recap. This term we discussed:

The club has just a couple more small events coming up before the term is over. The GDCIE will continue again next term.
As always, I like feedback of any sort; I’m always wondering how I’m doing running these things. If you have any question, comments, criticisms, complaints, or anything else you want to yell at me about, then leave a comment below or send them to the club’s email.

We are on the eve of the final GDCIE for the term, which is tomorrow, Tuesday March 27, 2012 at 6:00pm in MC2035. We are discussing:
At a Distance, by Terry Cavanagh
http://distractionware.com/atadistance/
This is, once again, a game that we will be playing at the discussion. If people bring their laptops and don’t mind temporarily lending them to the cause, then we might be able to get multiple games of this going at once.

Our latest, and first, written feature was posted a few weeks back. Now that we’re looking to do another, we want some feedback from the first. Was it too long? Was it about a topic you didn’t like? Did you even read it? (no really, this helps!) Let us know and we’ll improve next time!
There will be a talk/workshop/tutorial/thing this Sunday March 25, 2012 at 1:00pm in MC2054, about sprite based animation in 2d games. Aside from the basics of what sprite animation is, it’s going to be somewhere between an artistic talk, about drawing animations and making a sprite sheet, and a technical talk, about how you might implement a sprite animation system in your game engine. It will likely be more talk than workshop, really. Less with the interactivity, so you shouldn’t be absolutely necessary to have a laptop or anything with you to follow along with it.

ps. I will be the one running this talk, if you’re wondering.
The term’s nearing an end. That means this will be the last discussion until next term. The next GDCIE will be Tuesday March 27, 2012 at 6:00pm in MC2035. We will be discussing:
At a Distance, by Terry Cavanagh

We’re out of board games and back into those of an electronic variety. This is a multiplayer, cooperative game for two players, meant to be played on two computers side by side. So, like past multiplayer games, we’ll be playing it at the discussion. We’ll be sure to have at least two laptops and controllers (easier for others to watch that way, I figure, rather than using keyboard and mouse). However, if people attending don’t mind lending their laptops for discussion use, then we can certainly get more than one game going at a time. Also, feel free to find someone to play with and give the game a try on your own, before the discussion, if you so please.

The penultimate GDCIE of the term is tomorrow, Tuesday March 20, 2012 at 6:00pm in MC2035. We’re going to be discussing:
Citadels, by Bruno Faidutti

Being a card game, we will be playing it at the discussion.

Because I love you all so much, I just wanted to make sure you all knew that we’re having our regular biweekly dev night tomorrow, Firday March 16, 2012 at 7:00pm in ML216.

Wouldn’t it be sweet if the club had a castle? The next GDCIE will be Tuesday March 20, 2012 at 6:00pm in MC2035. We will be discussing:
Citadels, by Bruno Faidutti
boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/478/citadels
This is another card game, like Saboteur, so we’ll be playing the game at the discussion again.
Nothing left to say,

Despite my own attempts to sabotage the GDCIE with alienating games and delayed decisions, the next discussion will be tomorrow, Tuesday March 12, 2012 at 6:00pm in MC2035. We will be discussing:
Saboteur, by Frederic Moyersoen
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/9220/saboteur
Remember that, since this is a board game and all multiplayer and everything, we will be playing the game at the discussion as we talk about it.
Nothing left to say,
