Oof. That was a heavy weekend, what with the Global Game Jam and all. I’m being mean and not letting you rest for long though, because we’re continuing right along with our regularly scheduled GDCIE, the next of which will be tomorrow, Tuesday January 31, 2012 at 6:00pm in MC2035. We will be discussing:
NetHack, by a whole bunch of people
http://www.nethack.org/
So that’s that. Now we’ll have to wait and see if I continue my attempt to scare everyone away from the discussions with crazily complex games.
Nothing left to say,

Hey everyone,
A reminder: the Global Game Jam starts tomorrow (Friday) at 5:00 in the Comfy Lounge! We will watch the keynote (featuring, among others, Will Wright), introduce the theme, brainstorm ideas, and form teams. And after that – 48-hour of game-making goodness. As a fun fact, there will be around 10,000 people participating around the world. Pretty cool
Looking forward to seeing you there. For now, here’s a short video:

Well, now that I’ve gone and scared everyone off with a big, complicated first game, it’s time to move on. The next GDCIE will be Tuesday January 31, 2012 at 6:00pm in MC2035. We will be discussing:
NetHack, by a whole bunch of people
http://www.nethack.org/
This should hopefully be a little easier to get into than Dwarf Fortress. Though figuring out how to play still might not be the simplest thing. Maybe I’m doing these games in the wrong order this term; starting with all the complicated ones. If you’re lost for how to play, try pressing ? (the character on your keyboard) for a help menu (after character creation).
If you’re curious for a little more information on roguelikes, of which NetHack is one, I would recommend taking some time to browse the RogueBasin.
Nothing left to say,

Well, it didn’t take me long this term to start lying about the discussion rooms. The very first GDCIE of the term is tomorrow, Tuesday January 24, 2012 at 6:00pm in MC2035. We will be discussing:
Dwarf Fortress, by Bay 12 Games
http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/
Hopefully you’ve all taken your chance to look into the game. If you have you’ve probably either bounced off the surface, or gotten sunk right into it. Either way, we’ll have something to talk about.
Nothing left to say,

Hey everyone!
As we mentioned in past meetings, we are organizing a host location for the 2012 Global Game Jam this coming weekend. For those who haven’t heard, the Global Game Jam is a 48-hour game development event where people all over the world come together and make games in small groups. There are 243 registered locations in 46 countries, and there are over 6000 REGISTERED participants (and quite a few more who are not registered). It’s a great event that’s fun, educational, and useful in your development as a game {designer, programmer, artist, writer, etc}. You get to make a game from start to finish and you gain experience working in team. Bottom line: if you can make it, you should come.
When: Friday, January 27th, 5:00PM-Sunday, January29th, 5:00PM (this coming weekend)
Where: MC Comfy Lounge (yup, we have it booked)
More Info: Head over to the Global Game Jam page on our website. We will post updates and information there.
Hope to see you Friday!
Hey guys,
So we’ll be having another fun filled Development Night this Friday (i.e. tomorrow) on January 20th at 7pm. Come by to work on homework, a game project, to watch other people make games, or to find people to work with on something. We’ll be meeting in ML216.
We’ve had our introductory meeting for the term, so it’s time to get the Glorious Discussions Concerning Interactive Entertainment started. The first GDCIE of the term will be Tuesday January 24, 2012 at 6:00pm in MC2017MC2035. We’re starting this term off big, and discussing:
Dwarf Fortress, by Bay 12 Games
http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/
This is a game that has the potential to eat up a lot of hours. How much time you want to devote to it is ultimately up to you, so long as you think you have a good enough feel for the game to have something to talk about. If you’re just getting started with Dwarf Fortress, then you may find the wiki useful, particularly the getting started guide and the tutorials page.
If you’re new to the club and are curious as to what the GDCIE is all about, hopefully this page can fill you in. That’s me being lazy, by the way, and just linking to something I’ve already written.
Nothing left to say,

Hello everyone,
Our first meeting of the term will be this Tuesday( tomorrow) at 6:30PM in MC4058. We will introduce ourselves, discuss the plans for the term, and mull over some game development-related topics. All in all, it will be a great use of an hour of your time and we hope to see you there
What: Start-of Term Meeting
When: Tuesday, January 17th (that’s TOMORROW), 6:30PM-7:20PM
Where: MC4058
Okay okay, it’s not really an emergency. Unless you count an untreated yearning to do some game development an emergency. (Which we do. We so do.)
For those of you who fall into this category, we will be hosting our first Dev Night this Friday, January 13th in MC 1085 starting at 7pm. We intend to stay as long as there are other people around, so feel free to show up at any point in the evening. Bring your personal game projects, school assignments, or even just a fistful of bold game ideas you’d like to undertake. Our Dev Nights are quite casual, so no pressure. See you there!
Hi all,
Welcome to our new website! We’ll be posting updates on here from now.
The first of said updates is some information for the upcoming term. We’ll be setting up a host location for the Global Game Jam this term, and we hope you guys can come out and participate. We will also be continuing our regular GDCIE’s and game dev nights, with perhaps some other events/talks/workshops.
Hope everyone has a good beginning to the term. See y’all soon!
