The Eclectic Spider

There once was a trap door spider with eclectic taste.
The spider was very creative when building traps to catch its meal.
Each and every time the trap worked, the spider would set up another.
One time, the trap included a sign stating,
"WELCOME Motherless Children Inside". This trap caught a female field mouse.
Another time, the trap had a sign with,
"WELCOME Lost Diamonds Inside". This trap caught a small bird fond of precious things.
Again, later on, the trap read,
"WELCOME King's Pardon Inside". This trap caught a guilty garden snake.
This went on for the longest time, until the spider became less eclectic.
The new trap was labelled with, "WELCOME Free Entertainment Inside".
This caught all sort of creatures, and the spider kept this sign up because of simple laziness.
When the spider became very old, and felt that the end was near, the trap was changed one last time.
It displayed, "NOT WELCOME Hungry Predator Inside"
As expected no creature knocked on its door, and the spider stopped waiting for the next meal for eternity.
Much later, a fellow trap door spider came across the eclectic home, saw the trap, and wondered;
"Why would one of us tell the truth and not get what we all need?"

The End
