A new file is generated daily, and the one from seven (and eight, and nine, and ten, and eleven, and twelve and thirteen) days ago is removed. This is done by a shell script in my crontab, which uses the output of a little program I wrote before GNU date made it pointless, and another shell script in my crontab, which in turn uses four other shell scripts (note the dearth of quotes).
